Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
After working as an editor for 16 years, I had a very busy life juggling work, raising children, and supporting my parents. Then, one day, due to health issues, I had to leave my job. During my recovery, I continued my hobby of making accessories, designing and creating pieces with care. I found that working on these projects brought me solace each day. When I shared my creations on social media, people began to express interest. I started taking orders and selling my pieces in small shops, leading to the birth of this brand seven years ago.
The brand name "nameraka" comes from the Japanese word meaning "smooth," "silky," or "uninterrupted progress." I always wish to be a "smooth" person, both in body and soul. I chose this name to embody that aspiration.
会社員になって16年目、私は編集者としてとても忙しく働いていました。仕事と子育て、両親のサポートの3つに追われていた私はある日、体調を崩して会社を辞めることになったのです。療養しながら、趣味のアクセサリー作りを細々と続けていました。デザインを考え、ゆっくり手先を動かし続けていると、日々自分が少しずつ癒えていくのを感じました。SNSで発表してみると欲しがってくださる方々が現れたので、オーダーを受けたり、小さなショップで売り始めたり・・・そうして7年前にこのブランドは誕生しました。
ブランド名の「nameraka」とは、日本語で「なめらか」「つるつるすべすべした様子」「滞りなく進むさま」を意味することばです。身も心もいつも「なめらか」な人間でありたい。そういう自分自身への願いを込めて名付けています。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
I produce my pieces by encapsulating collected sequins and rhinestones from around the world, along with various flowers, in resin. I give each piece a title, calling them "wearable stories," and draw inspiration from my memories and experiences. I aim to create accessories that make people feel free and joyful, evoking warm emotions.
収集した世界各国のスパンコールやビジュー、花々などを樹脂に封じ込めて製作しています。「読むアクセサリー」と称して一点一点にタイトルを付け、自身の記憶や思い出をモチーフとしながら、身につける人が自由で楽しい気持ち・ 温かい気持ちになれるアクセサリーを目指し続けています。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
I had visited New York once before. I had a dream of exhibiting my work in a city with countless galleries, ranging from those displaying renowned artists' works to exhibitions of up-and-coming and lesser-known artists. I hope to share my accessories with people passing by in a city where art is deeply integrated into daily life.
以前ニューヨークには一度訪れたことがあります。著名なアーティストの作品を飾るギャラリーから新進気鋭、まだ無名のアーティストの展示まで、無数のギャラリーが存在するこの街でいつか展示を行いたいと願っていました。アートが生活に根付いたニューヨークで、通りかかった方たちが一人でも多く私のアクセサリーと出会っていただければ大変嬉しく思います。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
My favorite piece is the "Hourglass Waist." Do you see the resemblance to an hourglass shape? If we consider the lower part, where the sand flows down, as the "past," and the upper part as the "future," what does the narrow waist of the hourglass represent? It represents the "present."
This piece encapsulates the concept of "living in the moment," without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future—a philosophy rooted in Zen and mindfulness that has been significant to me for the past 15 years. Every time I see these earrings swaying and creating motion, I am reminded to focus on living in the present wholeheartedly. This piece was born from that sentiment.
こちらの《砂時計のくびれ》という作品です。砂時計のような形をしているでしょう？砂が落ちた下の部分は「過去」、上の部分は「未来」とすると、砂時計のくびれ部分は何を表すでしょうか？そう、「現在」です。
「過去をくよくよ振り返らず、未来を思いわずらうこともなく、『今を生きること』に集中する」――これは禅の思想でありマインドフルネスでもあり、私にとってここ15年ほど重要なテーマでもあります。このイヤリングを身につけてゆらゆらと揺れる動きを感じるたびに「今をひたむきに生きる」ということに集中していたい。そういう思いから誕生した作品です。
