Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
Jacquard Works was born in 2022 as the factory brand of SUSAI, a Jacquard textile workshop established in 1906.
We maintain the unique features of Jacquard woven fabric, where each thread weaves intricate patterns, offering a rich texture and appearance. While upholding these qualities, we create sustainable products suitable for daily use.
The brand name, Jacquard Works, reflects our desire to make Jacquard fabric's texture and appearance more accessible for everyday life and to promote the various expressions it allows.
Jacquard Works［ジャカード・ワークス］は、1906年創業のジャカード織物の機屋であるSUSAIのファクトリーブランドとして、2022年に誕生しました。
ジャカード織物特有の、糸の１本１本が織りなす豊かな表現や、凹凸感のある手触りや風合いはそのままに、サステナビリティを意識しながら日常使いできる製品を１つ１つ丁寧にお作りしています。
Jacquard Worksのブランド名は、皆様にジャカード織物の手触りや風合いをもっと日常的に楽しんで頂き、多様な表現が可能なジャカード織物を広めていきたいという思いから付けました。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
As a textile workshop, our production process begins with weaving fabric from yarn.
The process of Jacquard weaving is extensive, involving roughly ten distinct stages, each requiring the expertise of over ten specialized craftsmen.
It begins with envisioning the design, materials, and weaving method for the entire fabric. This is followed by creating the weaving pattern cards (punch cards) for the Jacquard loom, procuring raw materials such as threads, dyeing the threads, preparing the warp threads, and weaving the fabric. The fabric then undergoes various finishing processes to achieve the desired texture. Afterward, our craftsmen contribute their expertise from various fields to develop the final product.
It's a culmination of each artisan's skills, with the fabric's unique characteristics. Finally, we design the end product, create patterns, and craft it after several prototypes.
私たちは機屋なので、糸から生地を織るところから製作が始まります。
機織りの工程は実に多く、全部で大体１０の工程を踏みますが、それぞれの分野毎に１０種以上の専門の職人が携わります。
始めにまず生地全体のデザイン・素材・織り方などを構想し、織物の設計図に落とし、ジャカード織機に設置する紋紙（パンチングカード）を作成し、糸などの原料を仕入れ、糸を染色し、織機に経糸（たていと）の準備をして、織物を織り、生地の風合いを仕上げる工程に入り、その後も生地によって複数の加工を施して、ようやく生地が完成します。
各分野の職人達による技術が結集されて、ようやく出来上がった生地の特徴を活かせるよう、最終的な製品デザインを考え、パターンを考え、試作を経て、丁寧に最終製品を仕上げていきます。

ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
New York is a melting pot of diverse cultures and races, making it a trendsetting hub for fashion. At the same time, Japanese craftsmanship is relatively unknown worldwide, but it holds many precious and beautiful aspects.
We are eager to see how New Yorkers perceive our fabrics and products and to understand what the forefront of global culture desires.
Personally, I have a special attachment to New York, having lived there during my childhood.
NYは世界各国から多様な人種や文化が集まり、ファッショントレンドの最先端の地でもあります。一方で日本のものづくりは、世界で知られていない、尊く美しいものがまだまだ沢山あります。
私たちが作る生地や製品を、NYの皆様はどう感じられるのか、世界の文化の先端にいる皆様が何を求められているのか、少しでも感じ取りたいと思っています。
個人的には、幼少期に暮らしていた思い入れのある街でもあります。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
While I cherish all our pieces, I have a particular fondness for the three-dimensional textured fabrics that we create with cut Jacquard. By incorporating these unique Jacquard fabrics into my surroundings, I believe that it enriches my living space and lifestyle.
どれも時間をかけて製作した、思いのこもったものばかりですが、弊社ではカットジャカードの立体的な表現の生地を多く製作しており、私自身もこれらの個性あるジャカード生地を身近に置くことで、空間や生活が少し豊かになる気がしてとても好きです。
