Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
I decided to start my own brand with the intention of turning my husband's love for candles into a handmade craft. The flickering of a flame is said to have a soothing and calming effect on the mind. The most important elements of a candle are the fire (hi) and the wick (shin), which is why I named the brand "HINOKOA,” with HI, NO, KO, and A representing the initials of my four grandchildren.
夫がキャンドルが好きだったのでそれを手仕事にしたいとの思いでブランドを立ち上げました。火のゆらぎは心を落ち着かせる癒し効果があると言われます。そしてキャンドルで最も大事なものが芯でもあります。その火と芯を取り入れブランド名を「火のコア」（HINOKOA）にしました。またHI,NO,KO,Aは私の四人の孫の名前の頭文字でもありますよ。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
We use pottery made by artisans from Okinawa, Japan, and transform each piece into a candle holder. These original pieces of pottery are inspired by the blue sea and traditional patterns. We pour soy wax into these holders, carefully considering the number and type of wicks (wooden wicks) to finish the candles. We also create wreath candles with botanical elements to complement the pottery.
沖縄県の陶房で一つ一つ手作りされたやちむん（陶器）を器にしてキャンドルを製作しています。それそれの陶工さんのオリジナルのやちむん（陶器）は、青い海をイメージしたものや伝統的な柄模様を絵付けしたもの等素晴らしい器ばかり。その器に大豆ワックスを注ぎ、芯の本数や種類（木芯）など工夫して仕上げています。また、器に合わせてボタニカルを入れたリースキャンドルも製作しています。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
SoHo in New York holds special memories for my family. We visited and enjoyed shopping and exploring the area. It was in SoHo that I saw the perfect opportunity to showcase my work. Through my candles, I aim to introduce the beauty of Okinawan traditional pottery and the art of craftsmanship to people abroad. I hope they will pick up my candles, use them in their daily lives, and incorporate them into their interior decor.
ニューヨークのソーホーは家族で訪れた思い出の場所です。そこでワクワクしながらショッピングをしたり散策をしたりしました。そのソーホーで、私の作品を出品出来る絶好の機会だと思い参加しました。沖縄の伝統のやちむん（陶器）と手仕事の素晴らしさを、キャンドルを通して海外の方に知ってもらい、ぜひ手に取って頂きたいと思います。そして、日常で使って頂いたり、インテリアとして御活用頂きたいと思います。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
My favorite piece is the new candle "KARAKUSA,” a collaborative piece with Shinsei Toubou. It features the traditional design of Karakusa painted on the pottery. It has three legs, making it a beautiful piece for interior decoration. When you light the wooden wick, it produces a soft, crackling sound—a unique and treasured item.
新作のキャンドル「唐草」（KARAKUSA）です。眞正陶房とのコラボキャンドルで、伝統的模様の唐草が絵付けされています。三個の足がついていてインテリア用としても素敵なキャンドルです。木芯に火を灯すとかすかに「ぱちぱち」と音を奏でる自慢の逸品です。
