Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
The motive was a desire to start something while raising children, and that's when I began exploring my interest in making accessories. The joy of seeing my own designs gradually take shape as accessories was so fulfilling that I realized I could freely express what I wanted through accessory crafting. The brand name, "Douce Couture," means "gentle and comfortable tailoring" in French. It reflects the culture and cityscape of Paris, which left a deep impression on me during a previous visit. I want my handmade accessories to embody the spirit of Paris, to be like special finds at a flea market, and to bring joy to those who wear them. Inspiration also comes from the serene and beautiful seascapes and flowers of the Seto Inland Sea in Kagawa, where our production is based.
子育て中に家で何か始めてみたいなと思ったことがきっかけで、元々興味のあったアクセサリー製作を開始しました。自らデザインしたものが徐々にアクセサリーとして形になっていく過程がとても楽しく、気付けば"アクセサリー製作を通して自分の表現したいことを自由に表現できる"ことに喜びを感じるようになりました。
ブランド名である"Douce Couture"は、フランス語で"優しく心地の良い仕立て"という意味です。以前訪れたパリの街並みや文化に感銘を受け、自分自身が作成するアクセサリーもパリの文化を踏襲した、"まるで蚤の市で見つけたような、誰かにとっての特別なアクセサリーをお届けしたい"という想いを込めてます。また、製作拠点である香川県の、瀬戸内海の穏やかで美しい海景色や花々からもインスピレーションを受けています。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
Our pieces are mainly crafted using techniques like hand embroidery and crochet. Each piece is painstakingly handcrafted, one stitch at a time. We use materials such as beads, gemstones, freshwater pearls, and even rare and valuable natural coral harvested from the Pacific Ocean off Shikoku.
Although it's a time-consuming process, we pour our hearts into every detail. We pay special attention to color combinations and pack each accessory with beads and gemstones, creating items that cannot be replicated through mass production. We enjoy the creativity that comes from freely combining colors and constantly making new discoveries.
作品はおもに手刺繍やかぎ編み等で製作しており、1針ずつ心を込めた手仕事をしています。また素材は、ビーズや天然石・淡水パールに加え、四国の太平洋沖で採取される希少価値の高い天然の宝石珊瑚なども使用しております。
時間がかかる作業ではありますが見えない部分まで心を込め、特に色の組み合わせに1番こだわって製作しております。素材一粒一粒それぞれの表情を大切に、小さなアクセサリーの中にビーズや天然石をギュッと詰め込んで、機械での量産では表せないアクセサリーに仕上げております。自由に色を組み合わせているといつも新たな発見があって楽しいです。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
I've always wanted to sell my creations abroad someday, but I struggled to take the first step. Then, I received an invitation from "the ARCADE JAPAN," which gave me the courage to venture into the international market. New York has been a place I've always wanted to visit. It's a hub of art, fashion, music, and theater, and it offers tremendous inspiration. This opportunity allows me to create my pieces while enjoying the freedom of artistic expression that New York represents. I'm excited to see how the fine craftsmanship and vibrant colors that are unique to Japan will be received by the people of New York.
いつか海外で販売してみたい気持ちがありました。なかなか行動に移せずにいましたが、このたび"the ARCADE JAPAN”様よりお誘いをいただき、一歩踏み出す勇気を与えていただきました。
NYは多くの人を魅了するいつか絶対に行ってみたい場所。アートやファッション、音楽、演劇などの発信地であり、今後の作品づくりにたくさんの刺激を与えていただける良いチャンスだと感じました。今回このような機会をいただけてNYの皆さまのように自由な心で楽しみながら製作をさせていただきました。日本ならではの細かな手仕事や色彩がNYの方々な目にどう映るか楽しみです。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
My favorite pieces are those made with natural coral gemstones. These gemstones are uncolored, representing rare and high-value red, peach, and white coral. Since I hand-embroider each piece with various shapes and hues, every accessory becomes unique. Just like finding a personal treasure at a flea market, I hope you'll experience the thrill of discovering these special accessories.
天然の宝石珊瑚を使用した作品です。 着色されていない希少価値の高い赤や桃や白の珊瑚。 形も色味もさまざまな珊瑚をひと針ずつ手刺繍で仕上げているので、この世に2つとないアクセサリーに仕上がります。蚤の市でお気に入りを見つけるように、わくわくドキドキしながら特別なアクセサリーを探してみてください。
