Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
I've always enjoyed creating things, but the desire to craft my own silver rings sparked the idea to establish my brand. Serendipitously, I joined a handmade accessory shop, where I embarked on self-taught silversmithing to lay the foundation for my brand. I currently attend silversmithing and woodworking classes to continue my learning journey. The brand name "CuoL" combines "curro" (cool) and "liam" (strong-willed). This name reflects my aspiration to live a cool and strong-willed life, not only as a creator but also in all aspects of my life.
もの作りは小さい頃から好きでしたが、シルバーリングにはまった時に、ふと自分で作ってみたいと思ったことがきっかけです。タイミング良くハンドメイドのアクセサリーショップに入社し、そこからブランド立ち上げに向けて独学で彫金を学び始めました。現在は彫金教室と木工教室に通って学んでいます。
ブランド名CuoLは、curro(かっこいい)とliam(強い意志を持つ)を掛け合わせています。作り手自身も、強い意志をもってかっこよく生きていきたいという思いも込めています。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
I cut and bend silver wire, brass wire, or sheets, then solder (weld) them, and finally finish them with tools like files. I also create design prototypes from wax, and after casting, I further process the pieces. For wood, I primarily use band saws and belt sanders to shape the material and finish by hand sanding. I handle all aspects of design and production, from start to finish.
銀線や真鍮線または板を切って曲げて溶接(ロウ付け)、ヤスリ等で仕上げをして制作しています。また、ワックス(蝋)でデザイン原型を作成し、鋳造上がりのものをまた加工して制作もしています。木材は基本バンドソーやベルトサンダー等で形を形成後に手磨きで仕上げていきます。これらを全て１人でデザインから制作まで行っています。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
The prospect of selling beyond borders and overseas, particularly in a diverse city like New York, intrigued me. I had been following the ARCADE JAPAN on Instagram and admired the work of many artists who were part of it. When the opportunity arose, I didn't want to miss the chance to be part of this platform and to avoid later regrets.
海を超え国境を超えての販売、ニューヨークという多様性の街で私の作品がどう感じ取られるのか興味を持ちました。the ARCADE JAPAN様のインスタを以前から拝見しており、個人的にも尊敬している作家様達がご出店されていて皆様のご活躍に憧れを抱いておりました。なのでせっくのお誘い、やらずに後悔はしたくないと思い参加致しました。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
My favorite piece is a wooden brooch with a silver frame. I enjoy crafting the frame by slightly squeezing it from the back to the front, and then shaping the wood to match the frame, ensuring it fits neatly without protrusions on the surface. The combination of wood and metal creates a unique sense of weight, and I hope this is something others can appreciate as well.
枠をシルバーで制作した木工のブローチです。枠を裏から表にかけて少し絞って制作し、枠に合わせて木材を削り表に飛び出さずに綺麗に面一になるように制作しています。木と金属の異素材の組み合わせならではの重厚感が気に入っており、それを感じていただければ嬉しいです。
