The idea was to establish a fashion brand that matches the traditional Japanese craft of "Arimatsu shibori" with modern lifestyles, so that many people will become familiar with "shibori" and this technique will be handed down to future generations. The brand name "kukuri" refers to the process of binding the fabric with thread during the processing of "Arimatsu shibori."
日本の伝統工芸有松絞りを現代のライフスタイルでマッチするファッションブランドを設立することで、たくさんの方に絞りを身近に感じてもらいこの技術を後世に繋いでいきたいと企画したのがきっかけです。有松絞りの加工過程で糸で生地を括る”くくり”という工程をブランドネームに起用しました。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
Based on a design plan created through trial and error by designers and local craftsmen, a "shibori" is applied to the fabric in a process that has remained unchanged since the Edo period. Many craftsmen are involved in the process of making the "shibori" fabric, and everything is done by hand. After that, each piece of fabric with its unique unevenness is carefully finished by the hands of sewing craftsmen.
デザイナーと産地職人が試行錯誤し出来上がったデザイン案をもとに、江戸時代から変わらない工程で生地に絞りを施します。絞り生地を作成する工程には多数の職人が関わり全てを手作業で進めています。その後、独特な凹凸のある生地を縫製職人の手で１枚１枚丁寧に仕上げています。

ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
The traditional Japanese culture of "Arimatsu Shibori" has attracted many people because of its beauty and comfort when worn. By incorporating this technique into real clothes, Cucuri is able to make people of various cultures and ethnicities look beautiful. We would like to challenge the New York market, where a wide variety of people gather.
