Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
Orushi is derived from the name of the artist himself, with the "O" symbolizing the numerical zero. Specializing in metal craftsmanship at a vocational school, Orushi learned to create three-dimensional objects from a state of absolute zero, starting with a single metal sheet or rod. After graduation, while working at a select shop that also dealt with handmade accessories, Orushi launched his own brand. Through this journey, he began crafting Ear Cuffs as the main focus, inspired by a keen sense of what customers were seeking, gained through firsthand experience. Last year, he redefined his concept to "blend seamlessly with the unique presence of the wearer," and continues to create designs that respond to customer needs, emphasizing the importance of crafting from scratch while maintaining an accessible range of designs and prices.
Orushiは作家自身の名前からつけたものです。"O"には数字のゼロという意味を込めています。
専門学校で金属工芸を専攻し、一枚の金属の板や棒など、何もないゼロの状態から立体物をつくり出すことを学びました。
卒業後、ハンドメイドアクセサリーも扱うセレクトショップで働きながら、Orushiをスタートし、どういうものをお客様が求めているのかを身近に感じながら、自分の作品へ落とし込んでいく過程で、イヤーカフをメインに制作するようになりました。
昨年改めて、"身につける人それぞれの存在に溶け込んでいく"とコンセプトを設定し、
"ゼロから形を作りだす"ということも大切にしながら、お客様のニーズにも答えられるデザインや価格帯となるように日々制作しています。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
The Wire Ear Cuffs are individually shaped by hand, utilizing tools to bend wires into their desired forms. They are then complemented with combinations of natural stones and Czech beads. Meanwhile, the "Melting Series," crafted by melting the surface of silver, involves cutting pieces from metal sheets and using a technique called soldering to join the parts together, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces with unique patterns due to the melting process on each surface.
ワイヤーイヤーカフは、道具を使いながら、一つ一つ手作業で曲げて形を作り、天然石やチェコビーズを組み合わせて出来上がります。
また、銀の表面を溶かして作る"トロけるシリーズ"は、一枚一枚金属の板から切り出し、ロウ付と呼ばれる金属同士を接合する方法でパーツをくっつけて、形を作っていきます。一つ一つ表面を溶かすため、全て模様の違う一点ものです。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
Since 2022, I returned to Kyoto, where I spent my student days, and had more opportunities to participate in Kyoto's markets. While I initially believed there might not be much demand for ear cuffs since most people overseas prefer pierced earrings, I discovered that many foreign visitors also appreciate ear cuffs. With a considerable number of international tourists, I realized the potential, and despite being approached for my first opportunity to exhibit overseas, I decided to take on the challenge.
2022年から、学生時代を過ごした京都に帰ってきて、京都のマルシェなどに出展する機会も増えました。
海外ではピアスを開けてらっしゃる方が大半なので、イヤーカフのニーズはないと思っていましたが、外国人観光客の方が多くいらっしゃるなかで、海外の方もイヤーカフを買ってくださる事がわかり、
今回、海外出展のお話は初めてでしたが、挑戦してみようと思いました。
