In the town of Joge where I live, the streets are lined with whitewashed buildings that echo the atmosphere of the Edo period. Drawing inspiration from this vintage townscape, I envisioned crafting accessories that embody the essence of Japanese aesthetics.
私の住む上下町は江戸時代の面影が残る白壁の街並があります。タイムスリップしたような古い街並みからインスピレーションを受け、和のアクセサリーを作ろうと考えました。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
Originally, we cut the "tatami edge" used in Japanese tatami rooms like ribbons. After applying fray-stopping, we shape them, secure with stitching, and fix with a hairpin. Combined with beads or earring parts, the creation is complete. For hair ornaments, we fray-stop both ends of the cut piece, fold it in half, tie it into a shape resembling a kimono sash, and then secure it with stitches.
本来、和室の畳に使われる“畳のへり”をリボンのようにカット。ほつれ留めを施し、形作り。縫い止めてから、ワニカンで固定。ビーズやピアスのパーツと組み合わせ完成。髪飾りは、カットした両端をほつれ留め。半分の幅に折ってから、着物の帯のような形に結び、縫い止めています。

I often received comments like, "It seems like it would be well-received by people abroad," and it has always been a dream of mine to someday sell my creations internationally. I wanted to challenge myself to see how they would be received in the fashion-forward city of New York.
