Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
After completing a degree in metal carving at an art college, I started working as a jewelry designer. Although I enjoyed creating products with many people, I wanted to pursue my own expression and had time to think about it. At that time, I created my current brand as a place where I create small three-dimensional objects related to daily life with the same attention to detail as if they were works of art.
Maki morimoto is my name, and nigura is a coined Japanese-English word meaning "second ground.
美術大学の彫金を修了後ジュエリーデザイナーとして就職し、多くの人と商品を作る事は楽しかったのですが、自身の表現を極めていきたいと思い考える時間を持ちました。その際、暮らしに纏わる小さな立体物を美術品のようにこだわって制作する場所、として現在のブランドを作りました。
Maki morimoto は私の名前で、niguraというのは”2つ目のグラウンド”という意味の和英おりまぜた造語です。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
Each piece is finished one by one so that it retains a soft texture. I use thin sheets of silver, which is the best material for expressing the dancing of the wind in white metal. The specific process involves cutting out a thin sheet of silver, expanding it, and then carving and engraving it with a thread saw to create a fine watermark.
柔らかい風合いが残るように1点ずつ仕上げています。風が舞い踊る様を白い金属で表現するのに最適な銀の薄板を使っています。具体的な作業としては、薄い板を切り抜いて、膨らましたり、糸鋸で細かく透かしをいれたり、彫ったり、彫金作業で制作しています。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
I am interested to see how my work will be seen in a highly sensitive place. Since I have relatives in the city, it is also a city that has always been on my mind, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to participate in the event.
I would like to connect with the wonderful people in New York. I would also like to hear many free impressions in a place different from Japanese culture.
感度の高い場所で自分の作品がどのように見られるのか興味があります。親戚がいることもありいつも頭にある都市でもあったので、お話をいただき良い機会だと思いました。
ニューヨークでのご縁を繋げていきたいと思っています。 また日本の文化とは違う場所で沢山の自由な感想が聞きたいです。。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
Inspiration comes from designs that are born out of necessity in nature. Therefore, most of my designs are based on the fluttering of the wind as it dances, or transparent designs that imitate the sunlight filtering through the trees as if the leaves of the trees are dancing. I believe that natural objects, both front and back, are beautiful and attractive in their inevitability, so my favorites are three-dimensional objects that are beautiful from all angles.
Fluttering earrings are popular because they are light and elegant, and cutlery made from natural stones that were not used for jewelry would also be suitable for this season's tables.
インスピレーションの源は自然の中で必要に応じて生まれてきたデザインです。なので、風が舞い踊るようにヒラリとしたデザインや、木々の葉がダンスしているようにも見える木漏れ日を模して透かしたデザインが中心となっています。自然物は表も裏も無駄がなく、その必然性も魅力的だと思っているので、どこから見ても美しい立体である物がイチオシです。
ヒラリとしたピアスは軽やかで華やかになるので人気がありますし、ジュエリーには使われなかった天然石を使ったカトラリーもこの季節の食卓に合うと思います。
