Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
”Heianzan", who studied sculpture, and "Komesu", who studied ceramics, met at a woodworking training center in Okinawa in 2017 and hit it off to start our own studio. The initials " Hei" and "Bei" together form "Hei-Bei" which means square meter, so we named the studio "Hei and Bei no Seisakujo = Hei-Bei" because we believe that 1 x 1 can become 5, 10, or infinity with two people rather than one.
彫刻を学んだ"平安山"と陶芸を学んだ"米須"が2017年に沖縄の木工研修所で出会い、意気投合して工房を立ち上げました。二人の頭文字「平」と「米」を合わせると㎡を意味する「平米」となるので一人よりも二人の方が１×１は５にも１０にも無限大にもなれると確信し「平と米の制作所＝平米」と名付けました。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
Wood that has been dried for several years is cut into round pieces and shaved into the shape of plates on a wood lathe. We then paint them and finish them with two coats of clear paint.
数年乾燥させた木材を丸く切り出し、木工旋盤で器の形に削り出しています。その後絵付けをして２度クリア塗装をして仕上げます。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
We were wondering if we could create an opportunity for people from overseas to hold our pieces in their hands and take a look at them. We are interested to see what kind of response we would get by participating in the POP UP in New York, where people from many different countries gather to live.
海外の方に私達の作る器を手に取って見ていただく機会を作れないかと考えていました。様々な国の方が生活をしているニューヨークでのPOP UPに参加する事でどんな反応が返ってくるか興味がありました。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
The "Yamuchin" series incorporates the classic Okinawan "Yachimun" (ceramic art) patterns into wooden vessels. The combination of the hand-painted patterns and the different grains of the wood is unique.
沖縄の「やちむん」（陶芸）の古典的な柄を木の器に落とし込んだ「やむちん 」シリーズです。手描きの絵付けと木目の違いの組み合わせは唯一無二です。
