Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
"ichipage" is a jewelry brand in which the designers themselves create works under the theme of "Wear the shape with your memories". Relying on certain motifs, ichipage forms jewelry by drawing on memories that have been beautified or made ambiguous. In particular, my goal is to create pieces that include the atmosphere surrounding the event itself, such as blank spaces and afterglow.
I experienced processing techniques at a jewelry company, which led me to be attracted to accessories that accompany people's lives over a long period of time, as only precious metals can do. The concept of blank spaces has been an on-going interest of mine since I was a student. I was also interested in the composition of elements that fill in the blank spaces from individual experiences and memories, which led me to start creating jewelry that would stimulate the memories of those who wear it.
The name of the brand is derived from the act of creating a "page" by filling in a blank sheet of paper with lines or colors to give it meaning, and from my own maiden name. "ichi" means the number "1" in Japanese.
ichipageは ’かたちに記憶をのせて身にまとう’ をテーマに、デザイナーが自ら製作を行っているジュエリーブランドです。 あるモチーフを頼りに、記憶の中で美化されたり、曖昧になったりしたものを手繰り寄せながら形作っています。特に、余白・空白・余韻といった、事象そのものを取り巻く空気感を含めて形作ることが目標です。
ジュエリー会社で加工技術に触れたことをきっかけに、貴金属ならではの長い時間をかけて生活に寄り添う装身具に魅力を感じました。 余白や空白への興味は学生時代から持ち続けており、個々の経験と記憶から余白を埋める要素が構成されることにも関心があったことから、つける人の記憶をくすぐるようなジュエリーを作りたいと思い制作を開始しました。
ブランド名は、白紙を線・あるいは色で埋めていき意味を持たせていく、「page-ページ」を作り上げていく行為と、自身の旧姓から文字を拾い、名付けました。「ichi-イチ」は日本語で数字の「１」です。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
I design and create each item with its own concept. In the process of creating designs from motifs that are dear to my heart, I always try to incorporate abstraction while considering it important to be realistic. This is because I believe that the beauty of the shape of the motif itself, as well as the blank space in which the wearer can expand the meaning of the motif, is what makes the object interesting. I try to create a balance that looks delicate at first glance but has a sense of strength within.
アイテムごとにコンセプトを込めてデザインし、自ら制作しています。 自身が思い入れのあるモチーフからデザインをおこしていく最中で、リアルであることも重要と考える一方、必ず抽象性を取り入れるようにしています。モチーフの形状そのものに美しさがあるのはもちろんのこと、使う人が意味を広げることのできる余白があることが、造形物の面白みだと思っているためです。 一見繊細に見え、内に力強さを感じられるバランスになるよう心がけています。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
The concept of interest in margins and inward expansion is said to be an interest with a Japanese cultural background. I would like to hear your thoughts on what New Yorkers feel about these concepts and what kind of background they envision when they see ichipage's items. We are also very interested in how my products will be accepted in the New York market.
余白への関心や、内側への広がりといったコンセプトは日本的な興味といわれます。ichipageのアイテムを見て、ニューヨーカーにどのような背景を垣間見てもらえるのか、色んな感想を伺いたいです。 また、ニューヨーク市場自体でもどのように受け入れられるのかとても興味があります。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
"Drowsy Earrings"
These earrings are one-of-a-kind, with each individual piece having a different shape. This series was created with the idea of making jewelry from the "inner glow" itself. The inside of the earrings is carved into a cavity, which reflects light as if it were accumulating inside the cavity, and shows a characteristic shine. It is a series that most directly reflects the concept of ichipage, which makes you want to look into it. Since no two pieces are the same, each piece has its own unique shape that you can choose to suit your taste. The key point is that they are easy to match with other items you already have.
“微睡ピアス”
個体ごとに形が違っている1点もののピアスです。 「内側の輝き」そのものをジュエリーにしたいと思い制作したシリーズです。 内側を空洞に削り込んでおり、空洞の中で光を溜め込むように反射するため、特徴的な輝きを見せてくれます。つい覗き込んでみ眺めたくなる、ichipageのコンセプトを最もストレートに反映させたシリーズになっています。 １つとして同じ形状はないので、それぞれ気に入る形を選んでいただいています。 着用時はシンプルに、お手持ちのアイテムと組み合わせもしやすいところもポイントです。
