Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
I have loved drawing and making things since I was a child. After studying fashion design, I worked in fashion industry for several years as an assistant designer, experiencing apparel, and remaking kimonos. When I got to know gold and silver threads used in Japanese embroidery, I thought it would be interesting if I could create a three-dimensional world out of a single ultra-fine thread. I named my brand "itoto" with the hope of creating something surprising and inspiring with thread as the main character.
幼いころから、絵を描くこと、物づくりが好きでした。ファッションデザインの勉強を経てアシスタントデザイナー、アパレル経験、着物リメイクなど数年にわたり服飾に係わる物づくりに触れてきた背景があります。 和装の刺繍に使用される金糸銀糸と出会い、１本の極細糸から立体の世界が生まれたら面白いのではと思ったことがきっかけです。 糸を主役とし、驚きや感動のあるものを作りたいとの思いからitotoと名付けました。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
I do everything from design to production by myself. Many of the designs are inspired by actual flowers and plants, and are drawn imaginary sketches. Using yarn with a diameter of 0.2 to 0.25 mm and ultra-fine crochet hooks, I start knitting small parts to assemble the piece. Freshwater pearls, crystals, vintage beads, etc., which do not detract from the charm of the main yarn, are selected and made into a single piece.
デザインから製作まですべて一人で行っています。デザインの多くは実際の花や植物からイメージを膨らませ本物とは違う空想のものを絵に描き起こします。直径０．２～０．２５ｍｍほどの糸を使用し極細のかぎ針で、作品を組み立てる小さなパーツから編み始めます。 主役の糸の良さを消さない淡水パールや水晶、ビンテージビーズなどを選りすぐり、一つの作品にしていきます。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
I was interested to see what kind of response my work using gold and silver threads used in traditional Japanese costumes would receive from people overseas. I thought it would be an opportunity to fulfill one of my dreams to have my work seen by a variety of people in the SOHO district of New York City, a place of diverse ethnicities and artistic and creative sensibilities.
日本の伝統的な衣装に使用される金糸銀糸を使った作品が海外の方からどのような反応を得るのか興味を持っておりました。 多種多様な人種、また芸術的でクリエイティブな感性が集まるNYのSOHO地区という場所で、様々な方に見ていただけることは一つの夢をかなえる機会だと思いました。
Q4.Which One Is Your Favorite Piece? And Why?
イチオシはどの商品ですか？又その理由は？
“croissance”
Although there are several similar designs, this piece, which means "growth" in French, was completed when I felt my own growth since I started making this piece. By weaving gold and silver threads together, this work expresses a metallic look, and at the same time, you can feel the delicacy and softness of the threads.
“croissance” 似たデザインのものもいくつかあるのですが、フランス語で成長という意味を持つこの作品は、自身が製作を始めて少しずつ成長をしていると感じた時に完成したものです。 金糸銀糸を編みこむことで金属のようにも見える表情をもつと同時に、糸ならではの繊細さ柔らかさを感じていただける作品です。
