Q1. What Made You Decide To Establish Your Own Brand? What Is Meaning Of Brand Name?
ブランド設立のきっかけは何ですか？また、ブランド名の意味を教えてください。
I have loved sparkling things and making things since I was a child, so I entered an art college and majored in design. While studying design, my desire to create "cute things" and deliver them to others grew. After graduating from college, I participated in an exhibition of handmade works organized by a friend of mine, which led me to establish my brand in 2013. After working at a design office and a handicraft store that handles vintage parts, I have been working at my current business since then.
The word "if" is a coined word combining the initial letters of the two words "innocent" and "freedom," and together with the originally existing word "if," it expresses the wish to be able to create any number of possibilities with a free mind.
幼い頃からキラキラしたものや、ものづくりが好きで芸術大学に進学しデザインを専攻しました。デザインを学ぶ中で”かわいいもの”をクリエイトし誰かに届けたいという思いが募っていきました。大学卒業後、知り合いの開催したハンドメイド作品展示イベントへの参加をきっかけにブランドを2013年に設立。デザイン事務所、ヴィンテージパーツを取り扱う手芸店での勤務を経て、現在に至っています。
ifはinnocent【無垢、無邪気】とfreedom【生まれながらの自由】という2語の頭文字を合わせた造語であり、元々存在している、if【もしも〜なら】という意味を持つ単語とかけて、いくつもの可能性を自由な発想で生み出せるという願いが込められています。
Q2. Please Describe Your Production Process.
商品はどのような工程を経て出来上がるのでしょうか？
I try to combine natural stones from various places in the world with vintage parts, coat them with resin, connect them with wire and tegus, and weave them together.... I create natural stone accessories with a story behind each one, such as shining stars, shifting skies, and birds flying freely in the sky, from my own free ideas.
世界のいろいろな場所から産出される天然石にヴィンテージのパーツを組み合わせてみたり、レジンを使用してコーティングしてみたり、ワイヤーやテグスを使って繋いで、編み込んでみたり...。輝く星や移ろう空、自由に空を飛ぶ鳥など、ひとつひとつに物語のある天然石のアクセサリーを自由な発想から制作しています。
Q3. What Made You Interested In NY Market?
ニューヨーク市場に興味を持った理由は何ですか？
In New York, where there are many people with many roots, it was one of my major goals when I started my brand to have people see and sell the works of creators who work far away in Japan in a place where highly sensitive people who love handcraft culture gather. I thought it would be a wonderful experience.
たくさんのルーツを持つ人が存在するニューヨークの中でも、ハンドクラフトカルチャーを愛する感度の高い人々が集まる場所で、遠く日本で活動するクリエイターの作品を見て頂いたり販売することは、ブランド活動をするにあたって大きな目標の一つでした。素敵な経験になると思ったからです。

“the Hydrangea series”
A hydrangea is a flower composed of a cluster of small flowers and the flower-shaped "stem" that surrounds them. Inspired by this, I gathered small pieces of stones to create the image of a sparkling hydrangea. The earrings and pierced earrings are delicately designed and made to look like a single flower by weaving one piece at a time.
Hydrangeaシリーズです。紫陽花は小さな花の集合体と、その周りにある花のような形をした”がく”と言われる部分で構成される花です。そこから着想を得て、小さな石のかけらを集めて、キラキラ輝く紫陽花をイメージしました。ひとつぶひとつぶを編んで一つの花のように製作した繊細なデザインのイヤリング＆ピアスです。
